Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a rare genetic disorder that causes extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) light due to mutations in DNA repair genes. It leads to symptoms like freckling, sunburn, and an increased risk of skin cancers, including melanoma and basal cell carcinoma. Some individuals may also experience neurological complications. Management involves strict sun protection, regular skin examinations, and surgical treatment for skin lesions, along with education and support for patients and families.
The XP Programme is an RDTC based programme, that was started in 2017 with the aim of assisting XP (Xeroderma Pigmentosum) with prevention of cancer and treatment of complications.
The RDTC provides screening services, treatment including cryotherapy and surgeries for tumors. We also provide them with free imiquimoid, ultra D tablets and sunscreen.
This programme is made possible by support provided from Bioderma.
